Dr Patricia Bishop graduated in medicine from the University of Adelaide in 1977. After electives in New Guinea and New Zealand, she did her Internship in Vancouver, BC and worked as a GP in the Okanagan Valley. On her return to Adelaide, she worked at the Ingle Farm Community Health Centre, the Adelaide Children's Hospital and the Queen Victoria Hospital, obtaining her Diploma of Obstetrics in 1981. She then commenced general practice in partnership with Professor Tim Murrell at the University of Adelaide Family Practice Unit at Highbury. It was during this time that she developed her particular interest in Nutritional Medicine. She later worked at the St. Peter's Family Practice on Stephen Terrace.
In 1998 after taking time off for children, Patricia began her association with Fitness on the Park as a consultant GP for the Healthy Weight Loss Program. She had first joined the gym in 1981 when it was called the Institute for Fitness Research & Training.
At FOTP Dr Bishop practices traditional preventative medicine within a holistic framework. A full history and blood tests are often required, and treatment may include lifestyle changes and nutritional supplements, so the first appointment usually takes an hour. In conjunction with the other professionals at FOTP, we can develop a tailor-made personal diet, exercise & lifestyle program especially for you. |
